The Design Process

Room by Room’s step-by-step process guides you smoothly from concept to completion. Our interiors reflect each client’s lifestyle, creating thoughtful, effortless spaces. With an approachable, seamless service, we make the design journey enjoyable, clear, and reassuring from start to finish.

    • A Site Visit and consultation with Joanne Newell at the property to discuss the project brief and your design vision. Following this meeting, a detailed Scope of Work and Fee Proposal will be provided.

    • Schematic Design & Concept Development:

      This stage involves, measuring the site, creating preliminary drawings and images that outline the spatial relationships, functionality, and overall design direction. The aim is to establish a clear vision that aligns with the client’s requirements and aspirations. Deliverables include concept references such as colour schemes, materials, basic floor plans, drawings, fabrics, fixtures, fittings, and finishes.

    • Second Client Meeting: Present the proposed schematic design direction to the client. This meeting also provides an opportunity to consult with the builder and trades to obtain preliminary pricing estimates for the design.

    • With feedback from the client on the schematic design, changes are implemented, and the concept is refined.  Deliverables include visualisations, drawings and a Fixture, Fittings, Finishes, and Equipment schedules.

    • Third Client Meeting:
      In this meeting, we present the refined design to the client.

    • Revisions & Value Management:
      Based on client feedback from the previous meeting, the design is finalised. Comprehensive technical drawings are prepared, ready for trades to review and provide accurate quotes.  Clients are provided with the technical drawings.

    • Quotes, Ordering & Construction Commencement:
      Accurate quotes and pricing are obtained for all elements of the project. The client signs a contract with the contractor/builder, and construction work begins.

    • Custom joinery, window furnishings, lighting, fittings and other selected items are ordered on behalf of the client. 

    • Site Visits & Installation Management:
      We coordinate deliveries, manage installations, and address any deficiencies. Regular site visits ensure the project is executed according to the approved drawings.

    • Project Completion:
      Once all items have been delivered and installed, a final site visit is conducted for styling and finishing touches, followed by professional photography to capture the completed space.

  • Architectural blueprint of a kitchen and family room layout, including dimensions and room labels.
